What is Google Adwords?

Adwords is Google’s main product that they sell and it is what has made them (Sergey and Larry) rich beyond anyone’s wildest dreams of wealth…they are rolling in filthy lucre because the product they sell, Google Adwords actually works.

The product they give away, the Google search engine also works quite well thank-you very much and they sort of work together.

Adwords are the small Ads that appear on Google’s search engine results page (SERP).

They may be at the top with a pink background or in the right-hand column or they may not be there at all if your search is not for anything commercial…i.e. If you search for “how to teach how to stuff fish” there are no Ads on the Google results page (the Google SERP).

I like Adwords because it gives people options when SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is not working.

Computer searching Google

Would a computer searching Google use Adwords?

Personally I like SEO even more than using Adwords because good SEO is a one-off cost whereas when you use Adwords  you have to keep paying Google.

Adwords uses a model or method called PPC or CPC which stands for Pay Per Click or Cost Per Click and means that if someone clicks on your Ad you have to pay Google some money.

That figure is usually between about AUS$0.50 and AUS$5.00 per click so you have to have a good idea of how much it is worth to you for someone to look at your website.

I should say “webpage” rather than website because the searcher is sent to one page, called the “landing page” and if they don’t like what they see they will leave your website.

They will also leave you a little poorer and Google a little richer because you paid whether they rang you, emailed you or bought something from you…or not.
